Cat in the Hat: Builds That
Random House / PBS Kids
Overview
The Cat in the Hat Builds That is an award-winning educational STEM game developed for PBS Kids and Random House, inspired by the animated television series of the same name. Designed for preschool-aged children, the experience combines engineering, measurement, sorting, music, and problem-solving concepts through a collection of interactive minigames connected by a persistent world and progression system. The game was recognized with a Webby Award in the Kids & Family category for its engaging educational design and accessibility. As Lead Developer, I directed a team of four developers while architecting the application's core systems, including navigation, progression, save data, minigame integration, and Cordova-based mobile deployment. I also implemented specialized analytics used to evaluate how children interacted with educational challenges, helping identify learning patterns and points of friction. In addition to overseeing development across the project, I personally designed and developed the Bridge-a-rama and Soundapalooza minigames while mentoring other developers and collaborating closely with production and stakeholder teams throughout development.
